Kieran Tamondong’s Breakout Year

Kieran Tamondong

Kieran Tamondong

One of the athletes that Sarah’s benefactors at Asian World Of Martial Arts sponsors is teenage breakout star Kieran Tamondong.

Tamondong did a pile of high-profile things in 2016, but there’s probably no better indicator that he’s on his way than the fact that he was in a Beyonce video.

Sarah recapped his year for AWMA.

Beyonce Backs Ronda Rousey

Beyonce

Beyonce

Perhaps as a response to Taylor Swift’s uncomfortably vampiric need to bring famous women onstage as part of her concerts, the Queen B Beyonce recently shared a bit of gal power from the stage in Philadelphia with another strong woman — MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.

Now, Rousey didn’t actually appear on stage with Beyonce. But Beyonce used Rousey’s increasingly iconic “Do Nothing Bitch” speech to introduce her song “Diva.”

Sarah wrote about this natural coming together of elemental forces for Fightland.

Ron Howard, Beyonce, Jay-Z

Ron Howard, Beyonce, Jay-Z

When Ron Howard blew into Toronto for TIFF recently he held a Q&A session after the screening of his Jay-Z documentary Made In America.

Sarah was there for the event and wrote a story about it.

One of the things Howard said: “I was watching Jay-Z and I thought of Frank Sinatra. Which doesn’t really make sense. But good is good.”

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

The big news is that Michael Jackson died this week. I know, it’s a tragedy. In other stuff, Wham! played their last show, Beyonce went solo, and a bunch of people got trampled in mud and died during a Pearl Jam performance.

Rihanna, clearly airbrushed

Some musicians write about love and others write about politics. Then there are those who write about things. As in stuff, trinkets, baubles, items, junk, bits… y’know, stuff.

Sarah tracked down a bunch of the best for the AOL Music Blog. Amongst them: Weezer, Rihanna, Toby Keith and Kanye West.
