Polaris People For The Week Of February 8 (Lindi Ortega! Ariane Moffatt! Coeur de Pirate!)

Lindi Ortega

Lindi Ortega

The latest edition of my Polaris People column is online over at the Polaris Music Prize website.

For this one we did a little bit of radical narrowing, deciding to only look into the comings and goings of some of the 30 artists who made the 2012 Polaris Long List, but not the subsequent Short List. It turns out that country croonin’ gal Lindi Ortega wants to start creeping on the Stompin Tom demo, Ariane Moffatt finally made her return to Toronto and Coeur de Pirate has made a romantic new video.

Beatles & Ed Sullivan

Beatles & Ed Sullivan

My latest “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

In this edition the Beatles fight Apple Computers, John Lennon has a run-in with the U.S. government, and Britney Spears has a run-in with sanity.

To read about these things as well as a bunch of other stuff that made music history, click here.

Grammy Awards & Other Stuff News Pack

Ben Folds Five

Ben Folds Five

The Grammy Awards are tomorrow so I’ve had to put together a few different mini-pieces to help advance that event. These include:

Tegan And Sara accusing their mom of being high.

Melanie Fiona assessing her chances of beating Beyonce.

And the important internet grabber, “what time are the Grammys?”

I did a few other briefs recently, including:

Another SEO-bait story “what time is the Super Bowl?”

And the story of Ben Folds Five encountering characters from Fraggle Rock.

What Makes Diana Krall Nervous

Diana Krall

Diana Krall

Jazz singer Diana Krall gives off an air of stern-faced unshakeability, but there’s one thing that certainly makes her nervous — performing in her hometown of Naniamo, BC.

That’s what Sarah found out when she interviewed Krall for Huffington Post Music Canada recently.

11 Great Models Turned Musicians

Karen Elson and Kate Moss

Karen Elson and Kate Moss

In the way that only savvy content creators like us here at Risky Fuel are capable of, Sarah recently did a reverse-y of her recent 10 Great Musicians Turned Models feature and wrote up 11 Great Models Turned Musicians for Spinner.

It was illuminating because we now know that Kate Moss has performed with some really great bands — which is kinda infuriating. Other names on the list include Grace Jones and Jack White’s ex, Karen Elson.

To see the list — and photos of attractive models — head over to Spinner by clicking here.
