When Sarah occasionally writes about her autistic experiences for various publications there’s usually a virulent response, almost always from the parents of an autistic child, who tries to shout her down by saying she’s a) not autistic enough, so her opinion doesn’t count, or b) glamorizing the whole thing.

This is not true.

At her lowest immediately after losing the women’s bantamweight UFC title belt, former champ Ronda Rousey considered suicide.

When she explained these feelings on The Ellen Show it breached brave new territory for professional athletes — their mental health.

In the immediate aftermath of Rousey’s revelation it became clear rather quickly there are a lot of people who aren’t yet prepared to address the mental well-being of athletes.

SickKids Family Stories: Anisa’s Family

SickKids hospital has been putting on a campaign to illustrate how a seriously ill child can impact an entire family.

I helped put a couple of these family stories together for Huffington Post.

One of these stories involved Anisa, a girl with a rare disorder called Larsen syndrome. She’s had to undergo frequent painful surgeries to combat the disease’s effects on her body.
