Lars Ulrich Explains ‘Metallica Through The Never’

Metallica Through The Never

Metallica Through The Never

As someone who is uniquely capable of charming old metalheads, Sarah was tasked with interviewing the members of Metallica when they were at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote their Metallica Through The Never film.

She spoke to all of ’em except James and had a particularly artful time chatting with the often-maligned Lars Ulrich.

Matthew Good: Family Man

Matthew Good

Matthew Good

A good many people have imprinted onto their consciousness that Can-rocker Matthew Good is something of an asshole.

Fair play. He actually sold t-shirts that said as much a decade ago. But he’s not quite the same person as he used to be in that regard.

Nowadays he’s mostly a regular family man.

As such I went through a number of photos of him with his family for a collection of images published in Huffington Post Music Canada.

In the aftermath of TIFF and having to watch the 121212 documentary Sarah was tasked with creating a listicle about the best benefit concert films ever made.

She hit upon all the big ones: The Concert For Bangladesh, Live Aid, The Bridge School 25th Anniversary and a whole bunch more.

Cold War, Hot Songs: The Best Music To Emerge From The Fear Of Nuclear War

Nuclear explosion

Nuclear explosion

Back around the time of International Day Against Nuclear Tests I dug deep into the recesses of my Cold War fears to create a list of primarily ’80s-based we’re-all-going-to-die-in-a-nuclear-explosion songs.

There are tunes from Scorpions, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Elton John, Sting and more. Basically, every huge act from that time period had a Cold War song.

Nowadays all the huge acts have Beats Pill product placements in their videos. This is why we hate you Gen Y.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Win Polaris Prize

Godspeed You! Black album cover

By now most good musicos are aware that Godspeed You! Black Emperor won the 2013 Polaris Music Prize.

We also know how that turned out.

What folks don’t know is that because of a combination of indifference, content hoarding and a dismal sense of history on the part of previous Polaris Gala broadcasters, this is the first time you can actually go back and watch the full awards show broadcast without worrying about it disappearing from the internet.

So please go back and watch the telecast via Aux TV if you haven’t. I was responsible for writing a solid seven per cent of the dialogue that came out of co-hosts Kathleen Edwards and Shad’s mouths.
