Sloan and Broken Social Scene perform at a past Closer To The Heart

At the most recent Closer To The Heart benefit for the Regent Park School Of Music the likes of Sean Cullen, David Diamond & Mr. Zero (The Kings), Stephen Stanley (ex-Lowest of the Low), Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath) and Tara Slone (ex-Joydrop, co-host Rogers’ Hometown Hockey) performed classic Canadian covers all with the goal of helping raise money for music education.

I spoke to Karen Pace, the organizer of the event, for Samaritanmag.

Kevin Brooks: Punk Rock Motivational Speaker

Kevin Brooks

Kevin Brooks

Punk rock motivational speaker Kevin Brooks was the recent beneficiary of kind-hearted crowdfunding campaign to earn him a new wheelchair.

The gesture was a meaningful one for Brooks, who developed his motivational program after a reckless drinking and driving accident in 2000 left him partial paralyzed and resulted in the death of his good friend.

In many ways, this new wheelchair is a symbol for Brooks turning his life around to do good.

I interviewed him about this for Samaritanmag.
