Movember Moustache Style Guide

Some Movember moustache ideas

Some Movember moustache ideas

It’s officially November 1, which means men all over the world will be growing out their charitable Movember moustaches.

Most of these will look stupid.

Because I care about these things I tracked down a moustache expert from the Toronto Facial Hair Club who gave me pointers on how to grow some wicked whiskers this month.

Amy Millan of Stars/Broken Social Scene

Later this week Stars/Broken Social Scene singer Amy Millan will be receiving the Planet In Focus Eco-Hero award for her work in the past year on the USC “I Am A Seed Saver” campaign.

D.O.A. Still Fighting The System

D.O.A.

D.O.A.

It does my heart good to know that a band like first generation hardcore punks D.O.A. are still out there doing their thing hatin’ on the government, supporting marijuana, still telling the world disco sucks, etc.

The band rolled into Toronto’s Riotfest awhile back while made for a plausible excuse for me to talk to the band’s figurehead Joey “Shithead” Keithley about politics, protest rock, the kids today and all sorts of related acts of rebellion.

Peacekeepers Doc Follows Female Muslim Police Officers In Haiti

A Journey Of A Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers

A Journey Of A Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers

One of the most fascinating documentaries that aired at TIFF this year was A Journey Of A Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers, a film that followed three female Muslim police officers from Bangladesh as they did a year-long tour of duty on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

I spoke to director Geeta Gandbhir, executive producer Irfan Izhar and RCMP Sgt. J.J. Hainey about the ways in which these women defied preconceptions and performed their duties during their tour.

Arrow’s Stephen Amell, WWE’s Stardust Do Good Deed

Stephen Amell vs. Stardust

Stephen Amell vs. Stardust

When Arrow television star Stephen Amell fought WWE’s Stardust at the pro wrestling promotion’s marquee Summerslam event there was a winner that wasn’t in the ring — a hospice called Emily’s House.

The pair created and sold a t-shirt that raised more than $200,000 for the house, in part to support some family friends of ours, the Muirheads, who had to spend some unfortunate time at Emily’s House.

To find out more about Emily’s House and why Amell and Stardust went out of their way to help it read my full story about it for Samaritan Mag.
