The Story Of When Dallas Green Didn’t Meet Neil Young

Dallas Green

Dallas Green

Neil Young was a big deal at the Juno Awards in 2011. He won stuff and hung out and everybody was Neil Neil Neil!

I got within 10 feet of him or so myself, so it was pretty cool. Didn’t get to talk to him though. If I did I would have asked him if he watches Top Gear.

Anyway, there was someone else who didn’t talk to him either — City And Colour‘s Dallas Green. Thing is, Green sung one of Young’s songs (“Old Man”), on the award show broadcast, so that was a whole different level of Neil interaction.

I asked him about it for Huffington Post Music Canada.

This Week In Music History — May 6 – May 12

Bob Marley

Bob Marley

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

The biggest deal is the fact that it’s the anniversary of Bob Marley‘s death this weekend. That’s a bummer. But there’s also stories about a spider named after Neil Young and something about Pearl Jam.

To find out more details of why these things and more made music history, click here.

Neil Young Is The Rodney Dangerfield Of The Grammys

Neil Young

Neil Young

Neil Young gets no respect. From the Grammys. Just like Rodney Dangerfield.

According to Aaron, that is. He went deep into the Grammy Award archives and found out Neil has won Grammys only twice in the 22 times he’s been nominated. And one of those was for packaging.

Heck, Weird Al has won more Grammys.

CBC Music wanted a closer look, so the resulting article tracked what other Canadians had won more Grammys than Neil, and what won in the years that Harvest and After The Goldrush didn’t.

Jonathan Demme To Do A Fourth Neil Young Movie

Neil Young

Neil Young

It’s heartening to know that Jonathan Demme, the man who directed The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia, is one of us — a music geek.

Sarah found this out when she interviewed Demme about his latest, and third film about Neil Young, Neil Young Journeys. Demme says he intends to do more films with Young, too, along with whatever other creative projects they can come up with.

Neil Young Goes Sound Nerd At TIFF

When Neil Young and Jonathan Demme debuted their new concert film Neil Young Journeys at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 12 one of the defining characteristics of the whole event was what they did to the theatre they presented it in.

Basically they went super-mega acoustic nerd on the whole thing, adding speakers and tweaking the sound system. Then they talked to the audience about what exactly they did.

Sarah wrote about it for Spinner Canada. You can read the story here.
