Jonathan Demme To Do A Fourth Neil Young Movie

Neil Young

Neil Young

It’s heartening to know that Jonathan Demme, the man who directed The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia, is one of us — a music geek.

Sarah found this out when she interviewed Demme about his latest, and third film about Neil Young, Neil Young Journeys. Demme says he intends to do more films with Young, too, along with whatever other creative projects they can come up with.

Paul Williams! The Rainbow Connection/Muppets Guy!

Rarely has Sarah been as excited for an interview as she was when she got to interview legendary ’70s singer-songwriter Paul Williams while he was in town promoting his film Paul Williams: Still Alive at TIFF 2011.

Williams, the man famously behind The Muppets “The Rainbow Connection” song, was a great interview and the accompanying story Sarah did for Spinner Canada is burning a hole through the internet, so please consider going to read it here (and check out the dizzying comments section).

Because Spinner is RIP you can now read this story here.

Setting The Polaris Music Prize Odds For Maclean’s

The album covers of the 10 short list Polaris albums

The album covers of the 10 short list Polaris albums

For the past couple years Aaron’s done a pretty good job of predicting who’d win the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, correctly picking Fucked Up to win in 2009 and almost getting Karkwa’s win right in 2010 if he didn’t go with his heart and rank The Besnard Lakes higher than them.

With that track record in mind, Maclean’s asked him to lay down the odds on who’s going to win this year’s Polaris, which is being decided Sept. 19 in Toronto. To read about who he thinks will win, click here.

Neil Young Goes Sound Nerd At TIFF

When Neil Young and Jonathan Demme debuted their new concert film Neil Young Journeys at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 12 one of the defining characteristics of the whole event was what they did to the theatre they presented it in.

Basically they went super-mega acoustic nerd on the whole thing, adding speakers and tweaking the sound system. Then they talked to the audience about what exactly they did.

Sarah wrote about it for Spinner Canada. You can read the story here.

Paul McCartney’s 9/11 Film

The whole tenth anniversary of 9/11 media frenzy has been hovering close to too much for most people. But one 9/11 thing we can endorse which might restore some faith in humankind is Paul McCartney’s documentary The Love We Make, which followed his efforts to put together the benefit Concert For New York City shortly after the towers collapsed.

Sarah reviewed the film at TIFF 2011 for Spinner Canada. It’s a deep one you can read about here.
