TIFF 2012 Gets Skrillex, Spike Lee And A Jeff-Tim Buckley Film

Spike Lee and Skrillex

Spike Lee and Skrillex

The Toronto International Film Festival announced a number of new movies that would be showing at the event and there were a few music ones amongst the names.

The highest profile would probably be Spike Lee‘s Michael Jackson documentary Bad 25 about Jacko’s Bad album. Next is Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers and its soundtrack by Skrillex. Then there’s Greetings From Tim Buckley, which is probably the lowest profile of the three, but likely the most interesting to record collector types.

Anyway, Sarah wrote a recap about this for Spinner. You can read more by clicking here.

15 Musical Family Feuds: The Jacksons, Wilsons, Browns, Gallaghers And More

The Jackson Family

The Jackson Family

It’s become obvious over the last couple weeks that things have gotten crazy town banana pants in the Jackson family, what with accusations of kidnapping, Janet Jackson slap fights, Paris Jackson lashing out on Twitter, crazy maneuvering to control Michael Jackson‘s estate and other weirdness.

Jacko’s isn’t the only family to have nutty internal fights, though.

There’ve been the fist-fighting Gallagher brothers in Oasis, the soap opera antics of James Brown‘s family, the cake stomping antics of The Kinks and a whole bunch more.

Sarah compiled a list of cuckoo in the coconut musical families for Spinner. You can check out that story by clicking here.

This Week In Music History: June 24 – 30

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

The big news is that Michael Jackson died this week. I know, it’s a tragedy. In other stuff, Wham! played their last show, Beyonce went solo, and a bunch of people got trampled in mud and died during a Pearl Jam performance.

Hanson’s “Michael Jackson Theory” Of Music Making

Hanson

Hanson

Some of you will be unbelieving of this, but Hanson, they of that song “MMMbop” from about 15 years ago, are still at it and are rather legit.

So legit, in fact, that one of the brothers is in a side-project band with one of the guys who used to be in the Smashing Pumpkins.

But when Sarah talked to the brothers recently that wasn’t what they were talking about. No, they were more into talking about soul music and Canada and how they make music according to something called the “Michael Jackson theory” — it apparently involves sleepovers, elephant man bones and setting your hair on fire (kidding). It’s mostly about rhythm and melody.

Anyway, to read the resulting story that ran on AOL Music Blog, click here.

This Week In Music History – April 15-21

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson

Spinner’s still letting me do my “This Week In Music History” feature.

Wait until they figure out I intend to turn this thing into the definitive T’Pau chronicle.

Anyway, besides T’Pau this week’s column featured Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury, The Cure’s Robert Smith, The Kingsmen vs. the FBI, Joey Ramone, Buddy Holly and Sonny Bono.
