What started out as mostly an excuse to talk about the cartoon Clone High turn into an interesting lookback when Sarah wrote about Gandhi’s relationship to martial arts for Fightland.
For a pacifist, Gandhi had at least an observer’s understanding of early jiu jitsu.
What he learned from it, though, was perhaps more political than physical.

Steven Seagal and Vladimir Putin
In the “things that are vaguely unusual” department, past-dated action star Steven Seagal and Russian leader-for-life Vladimir Putin are apparently friends based on their mutual appreciation and (legit) martial arts skills.
Because this is a fascinating pairing Sarah wrote a bit about their history for Fightland.

Kung Fury’s villain the Kung Fuhrer.
The evil Kung Fuhrer needs to be stopped and only a cop named Kung Fury can do it.
That’s the plot behind the (obviously named) newly-released short film Kung Fury.

Steve McQueen
One of the most intriguing Hollywood friendships from back in the day was that of alpha male actor Steve McQueen and martial arts film star Bruce Lee.
At one point McQueen even tried to buy Lee a house.

Silicon Valley’s main characters
If you haven’t been watching the new Mike Judge sitcom Silicon Valley you’re basically a stupid person.
The show featured one of the best jokes in television history last season and this year they’ve turned a fictional UFC pay-per-view into a humiliating plot point.
