Hobbyhorse Revolution
Teenage girls in Finland have turned playing around with hobbyhorses into a sport and it’s kinda awesome.
These girls compete in competitions throughout the country that emulate actual horsejumping competitions.
A recent film about it, Hobbyhorse Revolution, filmed at the 2017 Hot Docs festival.
Sarah used this opportunity to interview director Selma Vilhunen.
Sarah also tried hobbyhorsing herself.

When autistic poet Micha Fletcher and two other men stood up to some rampaging white supremacists in Portland who were menacing women, the results were grim. Of the three, only Fletcher survived after being stabbed in the next while the other two heroes, Ricky John Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, died from their wounds.
One thing about Fletcher that wasn’t disseminated quite as well as it could have been was the fact that Fletcher’s actions were the result of a clear sense of empathy, of right and wrong.
Often autistic persons get accused of not understanding, having or exhibiting these attributes. And yet, we have Fletcher proving this wrong with deeds.

Holm vs. Correia
A little while back marquee women’s fighters Holly Holm and Bethe Correia squared off for a fight in Singapore (Holm won).
The thing is, for both of them the fight took place under the shadow of mutual past adversary Ronda Rousey.
For Sarah this felt a little like the plot from Daphne du Maurier’s novel Rebecca.
So she wrote about why for Vice Sports.

Buffy Sainte-Marie and Tanya Tagaq.
Awhile back my employers at the Polaris Music Prize managed to get past champions Buffy Sainte-Marie and Tanya Tagaq together in a room to collaborate on a song called “You Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind).”
