15 Songs About Tigers

Tiger

Tiger

Tigers rule. They’re exactly like cats except they’re more giant and more killing machine-y.

They are also an animal that awful humans have almost driven to extinction in the wild.

In honour of the recent International Tiger Day I created a list of 15 grrreat songs about tigers for Huffington Post Music Canada.

Zanta: The Living Legend Reviewed In This Magazine

Zanta

Zanta

Team Risky Fuel has infiltrated another organization. This time it’s old school print style in This Magazine for my review of Jason Kieffer’s graphic novel Zanta: The Living Legend about the divisive shirtless character who stalked Toronto streets doing random push-ups last decade.

I always found Zanta to be an entertaining sideshow, but there are many layers of dark to his story and Kieffer captures them well.

Book and magazine shops which don’t suck should probably have the July/August 2013 issue in stock.

Best And Worst Asperger Syndrome Characters On Television

Moss from IT Crowd

Moss from IT Crowd

Using her “mad meticulous and intensely focused spectral skills” Sarah has just contributed the article “Television on the Spectrum: The Best (and Worst) Depictions of Asperger Syndrome on TV” to the fine folks at Flavorwire.

In said article you’ll find discussion on folks like the Benedict Cumberbatch version of Sherlock, Abed from Community, and (apparently most contentiously) that decidedly unfunny Sheldon character from Big Bang Theory.

To read the whole story head over to Flavorwire by clicking here.

Jimi 3000

Jimi 3000

The first round of films has been announced for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and there are lots of music-related movies to be investigated.

Tom Hiddleston, best known as Thor nemesis Loki, will play a punk vampire in Only Lovers Left Alive, Outkast’s Andre 3000 will be Jimi Hendrix in All By My Side, Mos Def is in a film called Life Of Crime and Mike Myers turns a run-in with Alice Cooper’s guardian into Supermench: The Legend Of Shep Gordon.

There are more movies to be announced still, but Sarah’s got the lowdown on these and more for Huffington Post Music Canada.

Feist

Feist

The latest edition of my Polaris People column is online over at the Polaris Music Prize website.

This week we found out about the solid Feist is doing in Alberta, watched Drake start at the bottom and checked out a new Broken Social Scene song.

To read the column go here.

P.S. In other Polaris news we’re trying to start a Kathleen Edwards drinking game and Q Magazine is now on it.
