Walk Off The Earth

Walk Off The Earth

If you haven’t seen the spectacular video of Burlington band Walk Off The Earth covering Australian band Goyte’s song “Sombebody That I Used To Know” as a five people hammering away at a single guitar simultaneously, well, you probably don’t have any friends on the internet.

Said video’s gone super-viral, like 19 million viewers viral. So Aaron tracked down Sarah Blackwood, one of the singers, and asked her what it was like making this unique video.

Degrassi Star Becomes An American Idiot

Jake Epstein in American Idiot

Jake Epstein in American Idiot

Team Risky Fuel was so full of existential angst after checking out the Canadian debut of Green Day’s American Idiot musical that we had to dig a little deeper.

So Sarah tracked down Jake Epstein, one of American Idiot’s main performers, to get the lowdown on what it’s like channeling Billie Joe Armstrong every day. Along the way Jake, who played Craig Manning on cult series Degrassi: The Next Generation, also dished on his former castmate Drake, Glee, and subversive musical Spring Awakening.

Rock The Vote: 20 Musicians Turned Politicians

Fela Kuti

Fela Kuti

The Grammy-winning Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour recently announced he’s planning to run for president in his country’s upcoming election.

This, naturally, sent Sarah on a fact-finding mission to hunt down other musicians-turned politicians. She came up with 20 people, including amongst others, Krist Novoselic from Nirvana, Martha Reeves, Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil, 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell, Fela Kuti, Sonny Bono, and her personal favourites, the guys from Iceland — Jon Gnarr and Einar Orn — who are part of a political movement called The Best Party.

Nickelback vs. Atlanta Braves Pitcher

Nickelback

Nickelback

Ah, Twitter. Such a valuable tool for getting into low-grade flame wars. Just ask Nickelback and Atlanta Braves pitcher Peter Moylan who got into a tweet-fight a few days back.

Aaron collected their respective disses and turned them into a story which you can read over at Spinner by clicking here.

The Days Of Our Lives… As Songs

Elton John on Saturday night

Elton John on Saturday night

There are a lot of songs about Friday. And Saturday. Not so many about Tuesday or Wednesday, though.

Sarah found that out when she composed the article Days Of Our Songs: Tunes To Get You Through The Week for Spinner last week.

The list, not coincidentally, takes readers through each day of the week in song form.

You can read about it by clicking here.
