Arcade Fire Proves Popular Bands Can Win The Polaris Music Prize

Remember when Aaron laid down the official betting lines for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize in Maclean’s? And how he totally correctly predicted Arcade Fire were going to win (though, to be fair, a lot of other people had them as favourites, too). Well, he wrote an aftermath piece about how Arcade Fire winning the Polaris means “popular” bands can be artistically relevant, too.

You can read that story at Spinner Canada by clicking here.

Colin’s Stetson’s Pain In The Face

Most people had no idea who saxophonist to the indie stars Colin Stetson was about six months ago. But then he put out the album New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges, got nominated for the Polaris Music Prize short list, and everyone started to figure out that he’s worked with the likes of Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre, Lou Reed, David Byrne and TV On The Radio.

So it made total sense that Aaron would ask him about working out. You can read how their conversation went at Spinner Canada by clicking here.

Paul Williams! The Rainbow Connection/Muppets Guy!

Rarely has Sarah been as excited for an interview as she was when she got to interview legendary ’70s singer-songwriter Paul Williams while he was in town promoting his film Paul Williams: Still Alive at TIFF 2011.

Williams, the man famously behind The Muppets “The Rainbow Connection” song, was a great interview and the accompanying story Sarah did for Spinner Canada is burning a hole through the internet, so please consider going to read it here (and check out the dizzying comments section).

Because Spinner is RIP you can now read this story here.

Madonna Films From Best To Worst

Madonna directed a movie called W.E. which recently screened at TIFF 2011. Sarah saw it and didn’t think all that much of it.

Which was the incentive to write the article Madonna Movies: From Best To Worst for Spinner Canada. You can read about it here.

U2 On The Verge Of Irrelevance

U2 at TIFF 2011

And right now you’re saying to yourself, “Yeah, U2’ve been irrelevant for 20 years.”

Well, Bono thinks so, too. And he said as much at a Toronto International Film Festival press conference for the band’s documentary From The Sky Down.

Sarah wrote about what Bono said for Spinner Canada. You can read about it here.
