Coldplay’s Game Of Thrones Musical For Red Nose Day USA

The Rastafarian Targaryen

The Rastafarian Targaryen

That Game Of Thrones: The Musical idea that Coldplay unveiled last week was pretty brilliant what with its “Rastafarian Targaryen” and Tyrion Lannister’s humblebrag he’s still alive.

There was a reason for the musical above and beyond it being an awesome idea, though.

Coldplay’s GOT videos were part of the first ever Red Nose Day USA television special.

I wrote about what Red Nose Day is for Samaritan Mag.

Clint Malarchuk, the 1986-87 Rendez-Vous All-Star.

Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goaltender best known for suffering a gruesome skate-slash-to-the-neck injury in his playing days, recently attended the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival to promote his new book The Crazy Game a showing of his ESPN 30 For 30 doc, Cutthroat.

Throughout his playing days and into retirement Malarchuk dealt with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, alcoholism and an undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. The weight of these illnesses eventually led to a suicide attempt.

It didn’t succeed. And after a lengthy rehab Malarchuk has emerged to tell his story.

I spoke with him about it for Samaritan Mag.

Mike Prosserman of Unity Charity

Mike Prosserman of Unity Charity

The Unity Festival is happening this weekend in Toronto. The marquee event for this gathering of aspiring and established hip-hop artists will be a free Talib Kweli show tonight at Yonge-Dundas Square.

There is, however, a far greater purpose to Unity than putting on a big concert. The Unity Charity, an after-school arts and leadership program based in disadvantaged neighborhoods, has been help young adults grow and develop.

I talked to Mike Prosserman, a former competitive breakdancer and founder of the charity, to explain exactly what they do and why they do it.
