Grimes

Grimes

I’ve been churning out the news stories over at Huffington Post Music Canada lately and here are a couple of them:

Grimes wins a Webby Award.

Nardwuar takes on Questlove.

P.S. I totally know where Nard got some of his info on Questo… but I’ll never tell.

Bizarre Taylor Swift Arts And Crafts On Etsy

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

The true mark of musical fame isn’t ticket sales, #1 albums or Grammy Award nominations, its the bizarre lengths fans will go to in order to express their devotion to their favourite act.

Like, say, stencil the face of their fave musician on a toilet seat. Or maybe compose a print of the zombified version of their object d’adoration holding the severed head of John Mayer.

Such things are normal in the world of Taylor Swift arts and crafts available for purchase on Etsy.

Sarah navigated this murky world to find the 10 best Taylor Swift items for Huffington Post Music Canada.

10 Songs About Kim Kardashian (Ray J Didn’t Hit It First)

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian

Among this week’s top celebutard gossip was that Kim Kardashian‘s ex and former sex tape partner Ray J released a locker room-level insult song called “I Hit It First” about her (then denied it was about her even though the single’s cover art is a blurred photo of her).

The likelihood of Ray J being Kim’s first in the sack is arguable, but what isn’t up for debate is the fact he WAS NOT first when it came to writing Kim K-themed songs.

There’ve actually been a number of fascinating odes to Kim Kardashian over the years — including one by Honey Boo Boo — and Sarah collected some of the most interesting for Huffington Post Music Canada.

Heart On ‘Stairway To Heaven’ And Being Canadian (Sort Of)

Heart

Heart

Heart have made some of the best songs in the history of rock music — “Magic Man,” “Crazy On You” and “Barracuda” — and recently the covered another great, Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway To Heaven,” and did it so well they made the band cry. Before Heart came to Toronto for Canadian Music Week I got a chance to talk to Nancy Wilson about doing that song in front of Zep as well as what other covers they know. That story can be found at Spinner by clicking here.

I also tried to clear up that peculiar urban myth that says Heart are a Canadian band in a separate story for Huffington Post Music Canada. You can read about that one by going here.

Grammy Awards & Other Stuff News Pack

Ben Folds Five

Ben Folds Five

The Grammy Awards are tomorrow so I’ve had to put together a few different mini-pieces to help advance that event. These include:

Tegan And Sara accusing their mom of being high.

Melanie Fiona assessing her chances of beating Beyonce.

And the important internet grabber, “what time are the Grammys?”

I did a few other briefs recently, including:

Another SEO-bait story “what time is the Super Bowl?”

And the story of Ben Folds Five encountering characters from Fraggle Rock.
