TIFF 2012 Gets Skrillex, Spike Lee And A Jeff-Tim Buckley Film

Spike Lee and Skrillex

Spike Lee and Skrillex

The Toronto International Film Festival announced a number of new movies that would be showing at the event and there were a few music ones amongst the names.

The highest profile would probably be Spike Lee‘s Michael Jackson documentary Bad 25 about Jacko’s Bad album. Next is Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers and its soundtrack by Skrillex. Then there’s Greetings From Tim Buckley, which is probably the lowest profile of the three, but likely the most interesting to record collector types.

Anyway, Sarah wrote a recap about this for Spinner. You can read more by clicking here.

20 Pop Songs That Are Far Darker Than You’d Think

Fun.

Fun.

Have you listened to that “Pumped Up Kicks” song? It’s not fun. It’s psychopath music.

We’re talking Columbine level.

Knowing that this song had tricked a lot of folks into thinking it was a happy-go-lucky pop tune Sarah went and found another 19 numbers that are really actually about murder, revenge, deceit and other generally nasty stuff.

That list — 20 Dark Pop Songs — can be found over at Huffington Post Music Canada by clicking here.

Police car flipped during the Montreal Gn’R riot.

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

The riot that Guns n’ Roses caused in Montreal was a big deal. So was The Beatles releasing the Revolver album. Garth Brooks drew a million fans to a show.

The Story Of When Dallas Green Didn’t Meet Neil Young

Dallas Green

Dallas Green

Neil Young was a big deal at the Juno Awards in 2011. He won stuff and hung out and everybody was Neil Neil Neil!

I got within 10 feet of him or so myself, so it was pretty cool. Didn’t get to talk to him though. If I did I would have asked him if he watches Top Gear.

Anyway, there was someone else who didn’t talk to him either — City And Colour‘s Dallas Green. Thing is, Green sung one of Young’s songs (“Old Man”), on the award show broadcast, so that was a whole different level of Neil interaction.

I asked him about it for Huffington Post Music Canada.

You can read the story by clicking here.
