This Week In Music History: November 25 – December 1

Tina Turner and Mick Jagger

Tina Turner and Mick Jagger

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

This week’s column, though filled with all sorts of interesting information, is mostly a set-up to talk about how smokin’ hot a performer Tina Turner was back in the day. I know that’s hard to believe for anyone who only knows her for her hokey ’80s ballads, but seriously. I’ll help you out with this clip from ’71 below.

Spinner Mega News Pack: The Dears, Hilotrons, Ariane Moffatt And Some Drunk Dude

Here’s the latest batch of news stories I’ve done for the Spinner AOL Huffington Post empire:

The wonderful people of The Dears, who rank somewhere between 5th and 23rd best act in the world on any given day, have put out a new live album. They recorded it in Mexico because Mexico is crazytown banana pants for them.

That drunk dude who sung “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the back of a cop car? He had his day in court. And he lost.

Hilotrons did a video for “She Knows My Condition (Part 2)” so we premiered it.

Ariane Moffatt, who Sarah totes loves, debuted her “Too Late” video with us, too. It’s nominally about a chick bicycle gang. Hot.

Grey Cup 2012

Grey Cup 2012

Toronto has been overrun this weekend by Canadian Football League fans partying it up in advance of tonights 100th Grey Cup competition between the Toronto Argonauts and Calgary Stampeders.

Those parties have also meant the CFL bringing in a ton of bands for street festivals, ticketed concerts, and during the game’s halftime show tonight, performances by Justin Bieber and Gordon Lightfoot.

We combed through the Grey Cup festival schedule and tried to figure out what was the most “football” song by the artists playing this weekend. Then we wrote about them for Huffington Post Music Canada.

10 Great Psychedelic Neil Young Moments

Neil Young

Neil Young

Neil Young recently put out an album called Psychedelic Pill which, as the name suggests, is a bit of a bug out, maaaan.

With that in mind we were inspired to track down some of the most psychedelic things Neil’s done in his life — including onstage Jawas, Charles Manson songs and the ending to Journey Through The Past.

The result: 10 Great Psychedelic Neil Young Moments. Which you can find on Spinner by clicking here.

Enjoy the trip, dude.

This Week In Music History: November 18 – 23

An artist rendering of the Michael Jackson baby dangle

An artist rendering of the Michael Jackson baby dangle

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

This one was particularly weird because not only did I get to talk about the infamous Michael Jackson baby dangling incident, but there was also not one but two rock ‘n’ roll child bride divorce stories. None of which involved R. Kelly.
