Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke

Sometimes actor/62-year-old man Mickey Rourke has a boxing match in Moscow today against a 29-year-old, 1-9 opponent named Elliot Seymour.

We hope it doesn’t end like The Wrestler.

Sarah wrote about it for Fightland. You can read the story here.

Clint Malarchuk On Mental Health: ‘It Doesn’t Matter How Tough You Are, It Can Hit Any Person’

Clint Malarchuk, the 1986-87 Rendez-Vous All-Star.

Clint Malarchuk, the 1986-87 Rendez-Vous All-Star.

Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goaltender best known for suffering a gruesome skate-slash-to-the-neck injury in his playing days, recently attended the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival to promote his new book The Crazy Game a showing of his ESPN 30 For 30 doc, Cutthroat.

Throughout his playing days and into retirement Malarchuk dealt with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, alcoholism and an undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. The weight of these illnesses eventually led to a suicide attempt.

It didn’t succeed. And after a lengthy rehab Malarchuk has emerged to tell his story.

I spoke with him about it for Samaritan Mag.

Foxcatcher Director Bennett Miller Says Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo Have Cauliflower Ear

Channing Tatum's ear

Channing Tatum’s ear

If early reports are true, Foxcatcher may be the best (only?) film ever made about amateur wrestling.

One of the main reasons for this was the dedication of its two stars Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo to actually train for the movie.

They trained so hard, in fact, that they both developed cauliflower ear — the mark of a true wrestler.

Sarah talked to director Bennett Miller about this and more when he was in town promoting the film during TIFF.

Ninjas, Chuck Norris And Cannon Films

Chuck Norris

Chuck Norris

When the Toronto International Film Festival was on Sarah had the chance to speak with Mark Hartley, the man behind the documentary film, Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films.

If “Cannon Films” doesn’t ring a bell, the company’s imprint on pop culture certainly does. They’re the people who brought Chuck Norris, breakdancing movies, ninjas and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 to the masses a few decades ago.
