Darkness On The Edge Of Town
Sarah recently wrote a story for Consequence Of Sound’s Aux.Out section about how she learned to love a post-irony music world via Bruce Springsteen’s Darkness At The Edge Of Town.
There is, to be fair, a lot more to it than just shunting off old Beck songs. In the story, and in real life, she confronted some school bullies from her past.
The end result: singing “Badlands” at the top of her lungs.

Barb Honchak
Invicta FC’s flyweight champion Barb Honchak successfully defended her title against Japan’s Takayo Hashi on the weekend.
And though Honchak won by decision, not chokehold, it’s still a worthwhile enough reason to revisit the pre-fight interview Sarah did with her for Fightland.
They talked about all sorts of things, but most important was probably Honchak’s official t-shirt: “Every time Barb Honchak chokes a bitch out a unicorn farts a rainbow.”

Kaitlin Young
In the history of female MMA fighters Kaitlin Young’s name will forever be linked to those of the sport’s first generation pioneers.
Unfortunately, her fight record hasn’t quite matched her place in history.
Young attempted a comeback fight at last weekend’s Invicta card.

Neil Young’s Storytone
Neil Young’s new Storytone album was recorded with a 92-piece orchestra and choir.
Which, if you’re keeping track, means he can now definitively tick “orchestral” off that Types Of Neil Young Albums List which also includes “rock,” “grunge,” “folk,” “blues,” “noise,” “new wave,” electro,” “country,” “traditional,” “doo wop” and at least seven other genres or musical forms. We’re still waiting on that polka-reggae mash-up album, though… it’s clearly the last field left for Shakey to explore.

Karl Lagerfeld boxing fashion
Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has set his sights on the boxing ring with a series of fight-inspired Vuitton items including a heavy bag and boxing gloves.
Considering Lagerfeld refuses to exercise in real life this appreciation is… peculiar.
