Deaf Ears Podcast ‘State Of The Game 2013’ Edition

Deaf Ears

Deaf Ears

In the exciting world of marquee guest appearances I recently got the chance to be part of the Deaf Ears Podcast crew’s 30th edition, “State Of The Game 2013.”

Run by Urban Guy‘s Ryan B. Patrick and Completely Ignored‘s Cameron Gordon, Deaf Ears’ format is usually a rant session between the pair based on a specific artist like Daft Punk, Black Eyed Peas, Blondie or whoever. For this edition, however, we can-openered a vast array of topics. Some of these included:

* The existential angst of Chad Kroeger.

* Which pop starlets have a chance of being legit in 20 years. (not Britney Spears).

* What the big musical trend for this year will be (Drake imitators).

… and a whole bunch of other stuff.

To check out the Deaf Ears site head here. To download the epicness that is three fellas “of a certain vintage” ranting about music, you can score the podcast on iTunes. It’s free, so your only excuse not to is because you hate the idea of listening to three dudes mumble about music for an hour.

Polaris People For The Week Of February 15 (The Weeknd! Cadence Weapon! Grimes!)

Cadence Weapon

Cadence Weapon

The latest edition of my Polaris People column is online over at the Polaris Music Prize website.

For this one we pondered The Weeknd‘s lurid new music video, then took our minds out of the gutter with Cadence Weapon‘s new video, then we contemplated some of the awards Grimes is currently nominated for.

This Week In Music History (February 10 – 16)

Who is Arcade Fire?

Who is Arcade Fire?

My latest “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

In this installment we revisit two great moments — the debut of Rebecca Black‘s “Friday” and the “Who is Arcade Fire?” meme — as well as find an excuse to mention Gino Vannelli.

To find out why and to read a bunch of other stuff that made music history, click here.

Hayden’s New Social Scene

Hayden

Hayden

Back in the late 1990s my first ever-cover story for Chart Magazine (RIP) was with grumbling indie moper Hayden. Now, some 15 years later Sarah has interviewed the spotlight-shy singer to promote his new album Us Alone.

In Sarah’s story Hayden talks about his new affiliation with Broken Social Scene’s record label Arts & Crafts as well as his new, family-friendly worldview. More importantly, her story indicates that, in one way or another, Hayden has been helping to feed the Risky Fuel household for 15 years now.
