Dirty Ghosts Talk About Toronto’s Garbage Music Scene

Dirty Ghosts

Dirty Ghosts

Back around the turn of the century Toronto’s El Mocambo was ground zero for some of the best, most dangerous rock ‘n’ roll shows. The place was scuzzy and dirty and that was partially the point.

One night, while trying to climb onto the El Mo stage I tripped and dropped my glasses into a garbage can full of the filthiest nuclear bar sludge. It was a woeful experience fishing them out.

Dirty Ghosts lead singer Allyson Baker had a similar experience when a band member of the Killer Elite picked up the same garbage can and threw its contents all over the audience. She was part of that garbage slimed audience.

Masonic Temple Concert Venue In Toronto Closing

Audience at Rock Pile For Led Zeppelin

Audience at Rock Pile For Led Zeppelin

One of Toronto’s best concert venues, the Masonic Temple, is set to close because giant corporate owners Bell Media don’t really need it anymore.

The venue is 95 years old and has been hosting music events since the 1930s under various names like the Rock Pile and the Concert Hall.

There’s no word on what the building will become, but because this is Toronto and because developers are assholes, we’re betting on condos.

This Week In Music History November 4 – 10

Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams

Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

Did you know Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams share the same birthday? It’s one of the many things that makes Ryan bananas when it comes to Bryan. Which makes us a little troll-y and want to remind people.

Play “Summer Of ’69” Ryan!

Mitt Romney And The Killers… Didn’t Really Work Out

The Killers and Mitt Romney

The Killers and Mitt Romney

When Sarah interviewed The Killers last month the band were careful to appear as politically neutral as possible. They did, however, suggest they though Mitt Romney might have been namedropping them a little bit to appeal to the kids. As in, he was kinda fakey fakerson.

It turns out America agreed.
