Dan Deacon And A Bunch Of People With Funny Names Remixed Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”

Dan Deacon remixed Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”

Yesterday I broke Sarah’s Risky Fuel near-monopoly on Carly Rae Jepsen stories.

Apparently Dan Deacon did a nutter remix of her “Call Me Maybe” song that was her voice layered over itself 147 times.

The song’s on a compilation of 42 other smartass pisstakes.

Anyway, I wrote about the whole thing for Spinner.

Tragically Hip On Canada Day: Gord Downie’s The Nation’s Weird Uncle

Tragically Hip's Gord Downie

Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie

UPDATE: Because Spinner is RIP we’ve unearthed this story at this link.

The Tragically Hip‘s big Canada Day show this year took place at Burl’s Creek in Oro, Ontario.

The giant campsite played host to the Hip, Death Cab For Cutie, The New Pornographers and the Rural Alberta Advantage.

The one thing Sarah and I couldn’t get over when we were watching Gord Downie and the rest of the Hip perform was how effortlessly Downie has helped be sort of like a guiding hand for the less art intuitive.

What he represents is a gateway drug pusher for Canadian art, like that uncle who gives you a joint for graduating high school.

As such, Sarah wrote about it, and I took pictures of it, for Spinner.

Our Lady Peace Discuss The Fighting Arts And George Chuvalo

Our Lady Peace

Our Lady Peace

While our favourite tribute to the fighting arts remains Friendly Rich‘s “The Ballad Of George Chuvalo,” finding out Our Lady Peace were inspired at least in part by fightin’ for their new album Curve was worth talking about.

So I did. With them. Mostly about the aforementioned George Chuvalo, who appeared on OLP’s album.

This Week In Music History: June 24 – 30

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

The big news is that Michael Jackson died this week. I know, it’s a tragedy. In other stuff, Wham! played their last show, Beyonce went solo, and a bunch of people got trampled in mud and died during a Pearl Jam performance.
