Nineties sitcom NewsRadio was way ahead of the curve in a number of ways.
One that stood out for Sarah was the way the show portrayed mixed martial arts during a time when “human cockfighting” was the dismissive shorthand for the sport.
Of particular interest for her was when the show pitted Andy Dick vs. Joe Rogan in an anything-goes fight.

Fast-rising UFC bantamweight contender Mitch Gagnon’s ascent through the MMA ranks has been an unlikely one for one reason — geography.
Hailing from the small northern city of Sudbury, Ontario and unable to leave Canada due to legal issues, Gagnon has faced a number of hurdles in his advancement.
That hasn’t stopped him though.

Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goaltender best known for suffering a gruesome skate-slash-to-the-neck injury in his playing days, recently attended the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival to promote his new book The Crazy Game a showing of his ESPN 30 For 30 doc, Cutthroat.
Throughout his playing days and into retirement Malarchuk dealt with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, alcoholism and an undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. The weight of these illnesses eventually led to a suicide attempt.
It didn’t succeed. And after a lengthy rehab Malarchuk has emerged to tell his story.

Back in the day In Living Color was the funniest show around what with Homey The Clown and such.
The show also frequently liked to showcase sketches related to the fighting arts with Mike Tyson parodies, ninja appearances and peculiar self-defense classes.
Sarah jumped into the wayback machine and assessed all of these old fight-related sketches for Fightland.
