Smash Mouth & Sean Paul

Smash Mouth & Sean Paul

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

This one was particularly fun because I managed to subvert marquee birthdays by the likes of Elvis Presley, David Bowie and Rod Stewart in being about Sean Paul, Kris Kross and Smash Mouth. Real journalism.

James Brown & Creed's Scott Stapp

James Brown & Creed’s Scott Stapp

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

This edition was all about considering the difference between a good showman and a bad one. For example, James Brown = good showman, Creed‘s Scott Stapp, while whacked out on pills and whatever = bad showman. Unfortunately for Brown, this particular edition of History isn’t about his hard-working show.

The Dears Look To The Future

The Dears

The Dears

The Dears, one of Risky Fuel HQ’s favourite bands, have spent the last year or so in a sort of cataloguing phase, having the book The Dears: Lost In The Plot written about them, then releasing the documentary film/live album combo Never Destroy Us: Live At Pasaguero about their history.

After all that lead singer Murray Lightburn told Sarah, amongst other things, that for 2013 the band are done looking backwards. It’ll be all about doing new stuff from here on out.

Elton John and Bill Haley

Elton John and Bill Haley

My “This Week In Music History” feature went out again this week over at the Spinner.

This edition had a fancy “trailblazers” theme which highlighted vanguard-y stuff by Elton John, Bill Haley, Run DMC and Swedish House Mafia.
