Ice Cold Cash Food Trivia Show Set To Debut

Ice Cold Cash

Ice Cold Cash

A number of months ago Aaron had the opportunity to work on the Food Network trivia show Ice Cold Cash.

His job was to research and write “difficult” questions for competitors on the show. Needless to say he ended up learning far more about fermented shark meat than any person rightfully should.

Now, finally, Ice Cold Cash is set to make its official debut.

The first episode, “Brotherly Love,” is set to debut on Friday. Here’s its upcoming airing schedule:

  • Friday, February 10, 2012 4:30 p.m. EST
  • Friday, February 10, 2012 9:30 p.m. EST
  • Saturday, February 11, 2012 12:30 a.m. EST
  • Sunday, February 12, 2012 4:30 p.m. EST

The Imaginary Shins-Decemberists-Sleater-Kinney Portlandia Supergroup

The members of Echo Echo

The members of Echo Echo

UPDATE: Because Spinner is RIP, we’ve unearthed this story here.

There’s a supergroup called Echo Echo featuring members of The Shins, The Decemberists, and Sleater-Kinney that kinda exists, but only in the fake world of the indie comedy show Portlandia.

Aaron was interviewing The Shins’ main main James Mercer about his band’s forthcoming album Port Of Morrow and he talked about being part of the fake Portlandia band.

You can read what Mercer said by heading over to Spinner and clicking here.

People Who’ve Bombed On Saturday Night Live Besides Lana Del Rey

http://blog.music.aol.ca/2012/01/17/saturday-night-live-snl-lana-del-rey/

Kesha, Lana Del Rey and Coldplay

The internet is still reeling in shock that their new two-hit queen Lana Del Rey is, well, an imperfect performer.

The wannabe ’70s lounge kitten rather incapably ran through her songs “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” on Saturday Night Live last week, leading to all sorts of hatin’ and internet backlash. It was all quite satisfying for Sarah, who had stamped her with the don’t-believe-the-hype tag early on, but it got her thinking, “Who else has super-bombed on Saturday Night Live?”

She hunted them out — folks like Kesha, Coldplay, Sinead O’Connor, Cypress Hill, Frank Zappa, Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson—  and wrote a story about it for the AOL Music Blog. You can read it by clicking here.

How The Wire Helped Me Finally Understand Ghostface Killah

The Wire meets The Wu

The Wire meets The Wu

The Wire is a brilliant television program. Ghostface Killah is a brilliant rapper. But both of them are kind of difficult to understand — their respective art forms are filled with codified language, insider street slang that’s virtually impenetrable.

At least, that’s how Aaron felt about the music of the Ghostman until he watched all five seasons of The Wire. Then it all made sense. The criminals of the show provided him his eureka moment to understanding the Wu Tang Clan member’s music.

Wanting to share this revelation with the world, Aaron wrote How The Wire Helped Me Finally Understand Ghostface Killah for AUX TV. You can read the story by clicking here.
